Pettigrew ROCKS the Creek!
The Weekenders came to Colts Neck for the first time with a tournament to win and playoff spots still hanging in the balance. When the final putts dropped, longtime Weekender Mike Pettigrew stood alone at the top, firing a net 70 to defeat Jae Kim by three after Kim surrendered four shots over the final three holes.

And that wasn’t the day’s only drama. The last Doubles playoff berth came down to a head-to-head showdown, while the Singles bracket moved one step closer to being settled.

Showdown at the Creek
A new course, a late collapse and one veteran Weekender standing at the end
The Weekenders arrived in Colts Neck for the first time Saturday with plenty left unresolved.
The final regular-season Match Play event brought the club to Pebble Creek Golf Club, a Hal Purdy design whose personality is a little deceptive. It isn’t brutally long and it doesn’t beat you over the head with difficulty. Instead, Pebble Creek changes character as the round moves along, mixing different landscapes and challenges while remaining playable for a wide range of golfers. That’s exactly how the club describes Purdy’s design, and judging by the scorecards, the Weekenders discovered the same thing.

Another regular season is officially behind us.
We closed it at Pebble Creek, and I thought the course was a terrific addition to the schedule. It gave us something different from a lot of the courses we play. There was room to hit the golf ball, but plenty of places where the wrong miss could turn a good hole into a bad one quickly.
Based on the feedback I’ve heard and what we saw Sunday, I think it’s a course worth considering again.
Congratulations to Mike Pettigrew on taking the low-net victory with a 70. Mike has been part of this club for a long time, and it’s always good to see one of our longtime members put together a winning round. The victory also earns Mike his place in the Players Championship at Mercer Oaks East later this year.
Congratulations as well to Jae Kim and Jon for grabbing the final Doubles playoff position with an emphatic 7 & 5 win. There wasn’t much ambiguity left in that one.
We now turn our attention to the postseason.
The Match Play Playoffs begin Sunday, September 13 at Fox Hollow. The Doubles field is set, while the Singles side may still need a play-in to determine the final two positions. After a season of standings, scenarios and watching who needed what from whom, we’ve finally reached the easy part: win your match and keep playing.
And for everyone who isn’t in the playoffs, your season is absolutely still alive.
Every remaining event continues to include our regular low-net tournament, and there are still several opportunities to win your way into the year-end Players Championship. You don’t need to be in a Match Play bracket to have something meaningful on the line.
That’s one of the things I like most about how we’ve built the Weekenders schedule. September doesn’t become a tournament for eight guys while everybody else waits for next year. There is still golf to play, still something to win, and still a path into our final major.
So come out to Fox Hollow.
